Idea Napkin No. 1

1) Me: I am a student at the University of Florida currently on track to graduate with a degree in advertising with a minor in geography and innovation. I brew my own beer so I know the majority of the technical aspect of brewing. I have also worked with many different companies, from a hot tub company to a medical research team, so I know many aspects of the business world. If I were to start my business, I would put my heart and soul into finding the best way to distribute my kegerator system.
2. What am I offering to my customers? I am offering a cheap way to keep kegs cold without the use of a trash can and ice. My cheaper alternative will work just as well as expensive and bulky kegerators. It will cut down on weight and size to maintain space for the room.
3. Who am I offering it to? I want to offer to the young adult crowd, above 21, that enjoys throwing parties. Kegs are generally a party item and I want to appeal to those people. They will be mostly people on tight budgets, so I want to appeal to their price range and keep prices reasonably low. I will be mostly targeting males because males consume beer more than women.
4. Why do they care? Customers would pay money for my product because individuals who like to throw parties don’t want to be inconvenienced by having to constant tend to a keg. They will see that this product will be step up from trash can filled with ice. It will be a classy item while also appealing to their wallets. They will see the product as a good item to have during parties and their friends will certainly appreciate it.
5. What are my core competencies? What set me apart is that no one has entered this market and I will be able to make my mark. I also have knowledge of the beer industry and of how kegs operate. I also have experience from being at these parties with a keg in a trash can and know how obsolete they are.

I believe that all previous elements fit well together and that my knowledge will help my business venture succeed. My experience with business and beer will give me experience needed to start my business. I know who my target market is and I will develop ways to advertise to their needs. I need to settle on what my final product will be designed to look like, but I believe the logistics are covered.

  1. William,
This is definitely the right demographic for your concept. If this works for you there is a possibility of expansion and a pairing with another product I just saw on a show called the "West Texas Investors Club"- it was called the ITap. It is designed to control the flow from a keg and cut down on the foam wasted, increasing the yield of beer from the keg. The cost of this is more than a typical college kid could afford, but it could be a possible next level target market..

  2. Hi William,

I think your idea is useful. It's easier, lasts longer, and is reusable. Beyond just young partying men, I also think it would be great for major events and venues like concerts, fairs, company parties, etc.

  3. Hey Will,
This is the perfect time in your life to develop this idea. There are many potential customers in college towns and they will definitely be willing to pay for a product like this. I would also look into using it for other venues as well. It would help not alienate people who do not want to drink alcohol.

  4. Hey Will,
It's great that you already have experience in the business world. I think that would definitely help you in getting this business up and running. You have a great idea that a lot of people would purchase. I see the kegerator being bought for parties everywhere, especially in the college world.

  5. Will,

I think it would sell well at UF. Also, if you get it started at UF and you get good feedback, you will have other students wanting it at the colleges nearby. It would be a constant expansion as people come to their friends parties and see it, they will want to have one back at their party in their hometown. I feel like the advertising wouldn't be too hard with this product.

  6. Hey Will!

I think this idea definitely has potential as parties/events love the use of a keg but the fact is that it is just not convenient to set up. I think if you are able to keep the price low- this product will definitely sell to those college students. You could even expand to party businesses as well.
    Good luck!
